Information About Bobbi
Dawson Creek tutorPersonal Description:
Hi everyone!
I am a certified Adult Educator with a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. I have been teaching since 2015 and absolutely love connecting with my students and helping them meet their individual goals.
I also have a BA in Psychology. Prior to teaching, I was a Social Worker for five years helping people achieve different types of goals. However, I found a true connection with teaching, particularly due to my love for language learning.
I can understand French, Spanish, and some Korean.
Tutoring Experience:
I taught English in South Korea and Spain to a variety of learners of all skill levels and ages. I also taught English as a Second Language at a Canadian charity. There, I was the Program Coordinator, making me responsible for creating curriculum, leading classes, training other ESL Teachers, and assessing students. At the charity, I also ran, designed, and instructed a Professional Language Program that emphasized professional speaking and writing, as well as job searching and employment language.
Tutoring Approach:
My entire approach is centered around customization and comfort. It is nearly impossible to learn in high stress environments, so my classes are lighthearted, but professional!
Prior to our first meeting, I will send you a short form to better understand your current skills and what you want to focus on during the class. Every FIRST class will come with a follow up plan on areas of focus and next steps to ensure you meet your English as a Second Language Goals. Every class focuses on your specific needs, rather than generic class material. After every fifth class, we will refer back to your original goals and assess and readjust the focus to make sure that we are continuing to move forward in an angle that is important to you. We will move at your pace, on your terms, but with my guidance and professional recommendations along the way!
I research and review every topic before the class to make sure that I have the most recent information related to teaching strategies for those specific topics.
Because of my dedication to my students, I only hold a small number of classes each day, rather than over scheduling and losing track of learner goals, assessments, homework, and progress.
