Personal Description:

I am an associate professor of mathematics. I have more than 25 years of experience of teaching mathematics at the college/university and the high school levels. I have got two masters in mathematics, one in Differential Equations from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, and the other in Linear Algebra and Operator Theory from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Toronto from Fall 2002 to Fall 2004. I can also help students prepare for math competitions and math olympiads. I have a solid background in mathematics. I am particularly interested in working with talented students. For the time being I am only interested in online tutoring.

Tutoring Experience:

With my background in mathematics, I can teach/tutor almost any math course at the college/university as well as the high school level, e.g… calculus, differential equations, linear algebra to name a few. I have taught and tutored many math subjects over the years. I have also helped students prepare for math competitions, for instance AMC 8, U of Waterloo Math Contests for grades 8, 9, 10, and 11 to name a few.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, I like and I enjoy teaching. As a teacher, to help my students understand the subject naturally, I will try to use all the experience I have at my disposal, e.g… experience in my previous teachings and research work. My favorite approach to teaching/tutoring is a conceptual one. However, I have no problem adjusting my tutoring/teaching style in view of student's background and needs. For instance, if a student just wants to learn the techniques of a subject to solve basic problems of it, I will focus on the technical aspects of the subject and teach the student how to solve problems. Please note that there is no magical way to learn mathematics. Therefore, the students should do a reasonable share of the work in order to appreciate the material more fully and develop the skills to apply it.
