Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Amy! I am currently a third-year undergraduate student at Carleton University. I am enrolled in an Arts major as well as a concentrated minor. I have been on the Dean's List every year, and am maintaining a GPA of 11 out of a possible 12.
Although I spend most of my time working on school-related assignments, I do still have a life! I really love to bake, almost to a detriment but I would never say that there's such a thing as too many cookies! I have 2 mini golden doodles, who are essentially my children, and on the occasion where my school and work schedule line up where I have an evening or afternoon off, I like to watch an absurd amount of Netflix or be with friends!

Tutoring Experience:

In grades 11 and 12, I was enrolled in a class that involved me acting as an assistant teacher to a seventh-grade class. During this time, I was responsible for teaching the class their daily lessons through PowerPoint presentations that I created, whether it be about history or geography. Additionally, I was responsible for ensuring the students had grasped the information I had relayed and was prepared to answer any questions and help them work through their related assigned coursework. I have also been working with children with special needs for nearly 5 years, and have extensive experience teaching individuals ages 12 through 24 how to hold a pencil, how to read, how to use an iPad, how to count money, how to use alternative communication methods, and how to learn in a method that best suits the person.

Tutoring Approach:

I think patience is very important when teaching. The student shouldn't be afraid to ask the same questions over and over again. I also think repetition is important. The majority of how I study is writing and rewriting notes, however, I am aware that this method may not work for everyone and thus it is also important that a tutor is able to adapt to various communication and learning methods. Among other things, genuinely being interested in the student's well-being and progress is essential to be an effective teacher.
