Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Amber and I'm a fourth-year Biopsychology student at Queen's University. I'm also a Research Assistant at two labs: Bonier Lab (we study beetles) and a clinical psychology lab. In my spare time, I love watching sports and used to play badminton competitively. I'm always happy to chat a little about any sports you're currently watching :)

Tutoring Experience:

At Queen’s Best-Self Collective, I tutor first-year students to help them prepare for their final exams in biology and psychology. I lead review sessions, create study materials, and break down complex concepts into accessible language, helping students build both their academic understanding and confidence.

In addition, I worked as a Behavioural Technician supporting neurodivergent students with learning disabilities. This role deepened my understanding of individualized learning approaches and the importance of encouragement in academics. I often adapted academic content to suit diverse learning styles, making learning more engaging and manageable for each student.

Tutoring Approach:

The biggest challenge with learning about science in elementary, middle, and high school is connecting what we learn in class to the outside world. My teaching approach centres around making complex concepts relatable, engaging, and easy to understand. As a visual learner myself, I also like to incorporate visual aids like diagrams, flowcharts, and videos to support different learning styles. Additionally, I tailor each session using personalized study strategies that match the student’s goals and pace. Based on the student's need practice questions and worksheets are included in our sessions. I believe no question is a dumb question, so please ask away!
