Personal Description:

Hi.

I have just finished a master's degree in pure math. Aside from that, I have an undergraduate in math and another in finance.

I can tutor high school, college and undergraduate university level courses in math.

I like both learning new things and teaching what I know. I love getting those "aha!"- moments from my students.

I play chess at expert level. I love playing soccer and I also speak, Italian, Spanish and Albanian.

Tutoring Experience:

During my master's I worked as a teaching assistant as well. I graded first and second year math exams and assignments and helped students who had questions during office hours.

I have been privately tutoring math for over 4 years now, high school and college/university level. I have extensive experience both those levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor a session to best fit the student's needs. Exam cramming is different from being stuck on an assignment question; both of those are different from not understanding a new lesson.

Often a question is too hard because the student is missing a key piece of prerequisite knowledge. It is important to identify such gaps in knowledge and address them, otherwise a student will be just as stuck in a similar question.

Other times a problem is hard because what is given and/or what is required is not so clear. This is an opportunity not to just clarify the problem but to address the reason that the student finds the problem confusing. This are most of the cases where I hear: "Aha! Now I get it!".

Yet at other times, the notation (or diagrams or graphs) can be confusing to students. This is often the case in first year university-level courses. The correct approach is not to just explain what the notation means but rather to explain why the notation was chosen.
