Personal Description:

I'm a professional piano tutor with 13 years of experience working with both individuals and in small group settings. I'm a classically trained pianist with 25 years of continuous studying and professional development, currently working towards the Fellowship of the Royal School of Music accreditation in Performance. It is essential to me to make sure my students learn from someone who invests in and prioritises continuous personal development and for this reason I attend many professional seminars and conferences to broaden my knowledge in areas I am particularly interested in, which is the field of Psychomusicology and the approaches and methods of music psychology in the relationship between music emotion and cognition in music teaching activities.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 25 years of own learning and professional development experience in the field of music tuition (performance, theory, composition and creative development) and and 13 years of tuition. I work both with individuals in a focused, tailored to someone's needs environment, as well as small group settings. I have worked with tutees representing all levels of advancement, successfully preparing for all ABRSM or Trinity grades, as well as creating less formally structured learning plans for those who would like to learn to play by way of developing new hobby.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is tutoring is tailored to meet everyone’s individual needs which will vary, depending on experience, the aim (exams, revisions, auditions, or learning as a hobby) and personal preference for the style of teaching. The best approach and defining learning objectives is something I will advise on upon an assessment. I believe that a clear assessment of current abilities together with a challenging, yet attainable plan that will integrated meeting technical and musical development goals while providing thoroughly enjoyable experience is essential to designing the most suitable learning plan as well as selecting most appropriate repertoire. At the end of each lesson I will provide a thorough feedback for the tutee to refer back to and use as a reminder of the key focus areas, required preparation for the next week, as well as a record of the progress made.

I believe that first and foremost music needs to be enjoyed and deliver lots of satisfaction and sense of achievement - and because of this, I strongly encourage my students to participate in the process of selecting pieces. I create warm, friendly atmosphere and I attach great importance to building strong rapport with tutees while retaining the balance between focused, intense learning and more relaxed playing – all these combined make the whole process far more enjoyable and facilitate continuous progress.

I offer tuition from my home, alternatively I can travel to you. Prior arrangement required.

Lessons are 45 minutes each, with the provision of a structured homework plan and recommendations for any extracurricular learning.
