Personal Description:

Hi I'm Katy, a musician and music teacher based in Sheffield. I'm a multi-instrumentalist specialising in woodwind, and have played the saxophone, flute and Irish whistle for over 20 years. I've recently completed an MA in Ethnomusicology, which has given me a really thorough grounding in a variety of music and performance styles, to complement my comprehensive knowledge of music theory. As well as my background of classical training, I am a professional musician performing in several bands and groups, as well as solo.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently teach woodwind for Leeds City Council's music service (Artforms), both one-to-one and group lessons with adults and children. I have also taught music privately for a number of years, in addition to having teaching experience within both primary and secondary schools. I have also taught in 'workshop' settings, particularly folk music.

Tutoring Approach:

I am diligent and passionate tutor, and take a flexible and creative approach to tailor my teaching to the interests and goals of my students; more than anything else, I hope to inspire confidence and nurture a real love for playing music. Overall I aim to help my students gain a thorough grounding in a variety of different skills to help their all-around development as creative and competent musicians, as well as developing instrumental technique.
