Personal Description:
I am currently taking pupils for *online* teaching due to the situation with Covid-19.
Hello! My name is Henry. I am a violinist, violist, trombonist and pianist. I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (MMus, viola) and The University of Manchester and currently live in Ladybarn, Manchester. I have a wealth of professional performing experience in a variety of styles, from classical to pop, and from jazz to rock.
I can offer tuition in the violin, viola, piano, trombone and in music theory (all from beginner to advanced). I have DBS coverage.
Tutoring Experience:
I currently teach violin and piano in a range of locations and contexts. I work at two secondary schools in which I teach a mixture of violin and piano students and direct ensembles. I also teach the violin at Aura Music Academy. I teach piano, violin and music theory with Oxford Education Online and, since graduating in 2017, have always taught violin, piano and the trombone privately.
Tutoring Approach:
Flexibility and treating each student as an individual are fundamental aspects of my approach to teaching. I have preferred books, methods and techniques that I use, however I will always cater to what my students want to achieve from learning a musical instrument.
The age of my students ranges from 6 years old to 80 + years and so I am very comfortable adjusting accordingly to age and experience level.
We can tailor lessons in whatever way you wish. For example, focussing wholly on instrumental lessons, alternating instrumental lessons with music theory and keyboard skills or perhaps working on aural skills alongside your main instrument. Once that is decided we can make goals and work to achieve them.
I can help you prepare for music exams (ABRSM, Trinity/Guildhall).
I teach at home and, depending on the distance, am happy to travel. Depending on the distance travelled I may add petrol costs.
I prefer, if possible, payment on the day of the lesson. I ask for a maximum of £50 credit if you are unable to pay straight away.
