Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Henry. I am a violinist, violist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (MMus, viola) and The University of Manchester and currently live in Heaton Mersey, Stockport. I have a wealth of professional performing experience in a variety of styles, from classical to pop, and from jazz to rock.
I can offer you tuition in the violin, viola, piano, trombone and in music theory (all from beginner to advanced). I have DBS coverage.
Tutoring Experience:
As long as I have been freelancing professionally as a performer, teaching has been an integral part of my career.
I have worked as a peripatetic teacher at a variety of secondary schools, teaching students ranging from ages 11 - 18 and abilities from beginner to advanced.
Outside of schools, I have taught for Olympias Music Foundation, Oxford Education Online and Aura Music Academy.
I am happy teaching students of any age!
Tutoring Approach:
I always cater my lessons to whatever aspiration(s) my students have. Having said that, I firmly believe in a structured approach to lessons, gradually building on technique lesson to lesson. I believe that semi-regular performance (to friends/family/pets!) is important too.
I am very comfortable adjusting accordingly to age and experience level.
If you have more than one musical interest, we can tailor lessons in whatever way you wish. For example, alternating instrumental lessons with music theory and keyboard skills or perhaps working on aural skills alongside your main instrument.
I can help you prepare for music exams (ABRSM, Trinity/Guildhall).
I teach at home and, depending on the distance, am happy to travel (although this may incur some travel costs).
I prefer, if possible, payment on the day of the lesson. I ask for a maximum of £68 credit if you are unable to pay straight away.
