Grace is a fiddle player/violinist and clog dancer. She graduated from the BMus Folk and Traditional Music degree (First Class Hons) and MMus Music (Distinction), both at Newcastle University. She also completed a PGCEi in Group Instrumental Teaching from Music Masters/Birmingham City University. As a performer, she creates new folk music inspired by traditional archive material, and recently formed the ‘Grace Trio’ after a solo project supported by a Seed Funding Bursary awarded by EFDSS as part of the PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development Partnership. Grace has performed with ‘Monster Ceilidh Band’ across Europe at festivals including Rudolstadt Festival (Germany), Les Traversees Tatihou (France), Kendal Calling, Wilderness, and Camp Bestival.
As well as being a dedicated folk musician and clog dancer, Grace has also had classical training with Grade 8 Violin as well as Grade 5 in Music Theory and Grade 5 Piano, and has played in orchestras including Newcastle Sinfonietta (2013-2014) and Tees Valley Music Service orchestras (2003-2011).
Grace has a passion for teaching and is in high demand as a tutor. As well as being a dedicated private music tutor since summer 2015, she has been proud to teach in several settings for a wide range of ages and abilities, including Newcastle University, Folkworks, Sage Gateshead, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, North East Fiddle School, St Helens Music Service, Lancashire Music Service, Newcastle Music Service, York Young Fiddlers, and mixed instruments at Cream Tees (Music at the Heart of Teesdale). She teaches on a private basis in Derbyshire/Greater Manchester, as well as online.
Grace is an enthusiastic, encouraging and considerate music tutor and each lesson is tailored to the individual needs and aims of the student. Any student of any age and ability is very welcome and the repertoire and technique studied will be specifically suited to the student's need. Lessons often include exercises to improve technique and think about posture, as well as a range of repertoire from different genres.
Some students work towards Music Grade examinations, others work towards personal aims which we can discuss. Grace also creates a monthly listening playlist, for inspiration and a way of hearing new music and ideas.
Grace teaches all ages and experience levels, from absolute beginners to advanced. Grace has an enhanced DBS certificate and a safeguarding policy for online lessons.
