Personal Description:

Grace is a fiddle player/violinist and clog dancer. She graduated from the BMus Folk and Traditional Music degree (First Class Hons) and MMus Music (Distinction), both at Newcastle University. She also completed a PGCEi in Group Instrumental Teaching from Music Masters/Birmingham City University. As a performer, she creates new folk music inspired by traditional archive material, and can be seen performing with the ‘**Removed By Admin**Trio’ and the French Dance-inspired band, 'Cri du Canard'. Grace has performed across Europe at festivals including Rudolstadt Festival (Germany), Les Traversees Tatihou (France), Kendal Calling, Wilderness, and Camp Bestival.

As well as being a dedicated folk musician and clog dancer, Grace has also had classical training with Grade 8 Violin as well as Grade 5 in Music Theory and Grade 5 Piano, and has played in orchestras including Newcastle Sinfonietta (2013-2014) and Tees Valley Music Service orchestras (2003-2011).

Tutoring Experience:

Grace has a passion for teaching and is in high demand as a tutor. As well as being a dedicated private music tutor since summer 2015, she has been proud to teach in several settings for a wide range of ages and abilities, including National Youth Folk Ensemble, Newcastle University, Folkworks, Sage Gateshead, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, Band on the Wall, North East Fiddle School, St Helens Music Service, Lancashire Music Service, Newcastle Music Service, York Young Fiddlers, and mixed instruments at Cream Tees (Music at the Heart of Teesdale). She teaches on a private basis in Derbyshire/Greater Manchester, as well as online.

Tutoring Approach:

Grace is an enthusiastic, encouraging and considerate music tutor and each lesson is tailored to the individual needs and aims of the student. Any student of any age and ability is very welcome and the repertoire and technique studied will be specifically suited to the student's need. Lessons often include exercises to improve technique and think about posture, as well as a range of repertoire from different genres.

Some students work towards Music Grade examinations, others work towards their own aims which we can discuss.

Grace teaches all ages and experience levels, from absolute beginners to advanced. Grace has an enhanced DBS certificate and a safeguarding policy for both in-person and online lessons.
