Personal Description:
I am a graduate of King's College Cambridge, where I studied Music and was a choral scholar in the world-famous King's College Choir, the Royal College of Music, where I was a postgraduate scholar, and the National Opera Studio. I have a large interest in Opera of all periods and am a professional opera singer. I have worked at The Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Opera Holland Park, Garsington Opera, and English National Opera. I am passionate about teaching music to the highest standard and inspiring the next generation of musicians. Outside of music, I enjoy climbing, swimming and cycling and have just completed a charity ride, cycling 1,200 miles from Cambridge to Oslo.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience teaching both Singing and Music Theory of all grades up to Grade 8, and academic Music at all levels including GCSE and A-Level.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to Singing tuition is two-fold. It is firstly based around the formation of a technique that enables fluid and flexible singing. This is achieved through the use of vocal exercises and discussion about the correct approach to singing - posture, breathing, use of the imagination.
The application of these exercises and thought processes though repertoire forms the second side of my approach. This both makes the repertoire much easier to sing and places the exercises in context, highlighting their importance and the impact they have on singing.
