Experienced, friendly piano tutor based in Leeds. Several years full-time experience teaching pupils aged 5-80 in genres ranging from Classical and Pop to Blues, Rock and Jazz makes for fun and engaging lessons. Some students come for casual lessons, learning their favourite songs and how to read and perform music. Others come to study the piano grade exams and to develop their technique and skills; whatever your interests, I am confident that I can make our lessons fun and interesting!
Outside of teaching, I'm studying Film Music at Leeds College of Music and I gig with a function band :)
Several years experience teaching over 100 pupils on a 1 to 1 basis, at all levels ranging from casual beginner to Grade 7 and above, in both practical and music theory.
My first lesson with a student always ends with them playing a simple, catchy song like 'Three Blind Mice' or 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. I like to spend a few sessions exploring ears, memory, and natural musical intuition to get the student playing a few songs. Later, we start to look at things like music reading, rhythm, and after a few months the lessons are always filled with a mix of performing, reading, listening, improvising and technical work.
I teach beginners in the same way that a child learns to communicate; first by speaking, and later by reading/writing. I find this method is successful and enjoyable for students.
