Personal Description:

I am an experienced, qualified teacher, with a friendly and encouraging approach.

I have a reputation for reliability and a low drop out rate; most students stay with me throughout their schooling.

I love teaching adults also, and am thoroughly enthusiastic about the whole music learning process. It is never too late to learn and I want as many people as I can reach, to discover the pleasure of learning to play!

At the Royal Academy of Music, I studied with renowned international soloists and have performed in all the major London venues with orchestras and have performed extensively with my duos and chamber groups. My regular professional engagements give me a direct insight into modern practices and techniques and keep my skills up to date.

Tutoring Experience:

I first started teaching in Kent, over 25 years ago, in music centres and private and state schools and moved to Surrey in 2001 where I have held several teaching posts in schools and music services.

I am happy to coach students through Associated Board and other examinations if desired and I offer the opportunity to perform in an informal concert, at a prestigious local venue, on a grand piano, three times a year but there is no pressure to perform at these.

I have a special interest in communication through music and can bring your performance to life, giving it character and emotional content, to make it stand out in professional auditions, exams and performances. I have a high degree of success reaching and engaging students in this capacity.

I incorporate theory work into lessons where required, so that examination requirements are taken care of without the need for outside lessons.

I am a pianist and accompanist for music exams, festivals, concerts and grade exams and also have a working knowledge of mandolin and piano accordion.

I believe that every student is different and learning to play should be about engaging in music in a positive way.

I do hope you begin the journey or if you have already begun, that you find ever increasing ways to enjoy music.

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly, encouraging.
