Edinburgh Guitar and Music FestivalMarch 14th, 2013 by Dexter Findley
We are proud to announce that First Tutors has officially partnered with the Edinburgh Guitar and Music Festival!
The Edinburgh Guitar and Music festival is rapidly growing into a must-see international event, attracting worldwide acts performing music in a variety of guitar-based genres. This year's festival, running from the 25th to the 27th of May, will also contain an extensive program of educational guitar seminars, making it an absolute must for guitarists looking to improve their game with help from the pros.
The Festival has a heavy focus on education, with their mission being to enthuse young people the world over (not just in Scotland and the UK) and to show them the value of guitar music and music in general. This is reflected in their competitions, one for students aged 11-15 and the other for 15-18 year olds, the prizes for which amount to over £6000 worth of gear. To enter, simply upload a video of your skills to gmftv.co.uk. If you make the cut, your guitar tutor will get a free stand at the festival as a reward, or, if your school supported your talent, they'll win some free equipment as well!
As for the educational seminars, expect a broad range of topics spanning all styles and genres, including a how-to on American slide guitar, folk accompaniment, heavy metal styles, drop-tuning, playing jazz guitar and tips on writing a guitar-based pop song.
The Festival will also include events for those within the industry (or those wishing to get into it), in the form of seminar discussions. So if you want to take your skill to the next level, these will be of interest. A Guitar festival wouldn't be complete with some quality live music, of course: this year sees Sandi Thom head a group of artists from around the world, playing across five venues daily (and nightly!) within the Festival's venue, the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.
