The East Coast Musician of the Year 2011 Competition. Heats Saturday 5th November, Final Saturday 13th November. Early Registration Deadline 31st July 2011. Closing Date for Entry 30th September 2011

Supported by East Ridings Schools' Music Service, The City of Hull Music Service, Hull Philharmonic Orchestra, Scarborough Symphony Orchestra and Opera North, interest in this competition has been growing. Since its inception three years ago it has attracted both able students and those in the early stage of their musical development thereby giving the competition its unique status within the region's musical calendar. The competition aims to:

  • Increase the confidence of musicians of all ages in their musical abilities and creativity.
  • Provide an opportunity to perform on their chosen instrument or voice in a public setting regardless of their current musical ability.
  • Encourage musicians to share the performance experience as they listen to and learn from each other's performance.

Candidates are able to perform a piece of their own choice on their preferred instrument or voice. The competition has four categories 11 and under, 14 and under, 18 and under and an open class. The latter is designed for those over 18 and those who may be under 18 but are attending full-time specialist music school/college. Competitors are required to provide their own accompanists.

All candidates must take part in the heats. Finalists will be chosen from each category to participate in the Finalists' Concert.- A public concert event. Independent judges are engaged by the organisers for both the heats and the finals. The judges' decision will be final.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners as follows: 11 and under £100.00, 14 and under £150.00, 18 and under and open class £200.00.
