Personal Description:
I am passionate about music & it's power to change our lives. I love to work with children & adults to help them develop their own musicianship & 'grow their brains' through music making. I am a grade 8 musician & have 3 children of my own, all of whom have also achieved grade 8 musicianship. I encouraged them to learn an instrument young, as it is scientifically proven to develop new pathways in the brain as we engage in music making. This in turn has a tangible impact on other subjects such as maths & English.
I simply love teaching music!
Tutoring Experience:
I have over 30 years music teaching experience. I am a qualified Secondary School Music teacher & have 25 years class music teaching experience, including 16 years leading whole school music, in 3 different schools. In addiion to this I have taught instrumental lessons on: piano, guitar, ukulele, recorder, voice & music theory tuition 1:1.
Throughout my teaching career I have enjoyed running numerous choirs, ensembles & bands, with different aged pupils.
I am also qualifed to teach pupils with SEN & have 3 years class teaching experience with pupils with CLD with whom I developed music interaction therapy sessions to encourage their confidence & expression.
I tutor children & adults, many of whom take exams & I have a 100% exam success rate. Some however want to learn to play a variety of music without the pressure of exams. I am equally happy to work with both types of pupil.
Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy the challenge & creativity required to help each individual to learn. Whether it is to gain a place at a prestigeous school with a music scholarship or simply learn to play for pleasure & relaxation, I can help.
We are all different & we all learn differently, so I tailor my approach to each pupils' needs. We will play different musical games to help with memory recall, skill development & to have fun!
Motivation being so important in learning, I try to nurture a love of the music & the experience of making music through having fun. This will include playing together most weeks as I love to make music with others at all levels.
I want to help you achieve your goals & look forward to working with you.
(Please note that I don't tutor adult male tutees for my own safety & if I travel to you I require £4 to cover my travel expenses each lesson.)
