Information About Siobhan - Highgate teacher

Personal Description:

I am currently based in London where I am studying towards an MMus in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music. Previously, I studied Music at Peterhouse, Cambridge.

I have a background in classical music, and learnt the piano, violin and bassoon growing up. My interest in composition began at around age 13, an interest that I pursued at RCM's Junior Department.

I am able to teach composition, composition for screen, orchestration, music theory or any combination of the above. As I grew up surrounded by music I am aware of the great impact it can have on people's lives, and I am very excited to share the passion I have for music with others.

Tutoring Experience:

I have often tutored friends and family in composition on a casual basis.

In the past I have also had experiences leading ensembles and taking rehearsals, including a string ensemble of 11-15 year olds. At university I was the president of the university symphony orchestra and my college music society, meaning I know the importance of being organised, proactive and engaging.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that music can have great benefits in many different aspects of your life.

Composition is a wonderful way of expressing your creativity, as well as having fun! I believe both having an open mind and being willing to explore new and different styles of music in order to find your own voice and inspiration; and that it is important to learn the "rules" (so that then you know when you're allowed to break them!)
