Information About Simon - Newcastle teacher

Personal Description:

I have been a Professional Musician for ten years and have extensive experience in a variety of settings. My speciality is in Folk and Traditional music and I can teach in all areas from accompaniment to solo playing. In 2010 i graduated with a BMUS in Folk and Traditional Music from Newcastle University with honours and since then have worked as a Professional Musician in the North East of England and all over the UK.

I perform in a duo called 'Birze' who's debut E.P is making waves from the international music press and is vastly developing a busy performing schedule. I have also worked with professional function band 'Soul Central', Ceilidh Band 'Sunniside Up' and as a solo artist.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked as a one to one guitar tutor for five years. Acoustic and Electric guitar styles are covered in lessons designed to develop technique, style and confidence.

Teaching primarily from my home in Newcastle upon Tyne i have built a loyal roster of students dedicated to the instrument, teaching on a basis that suits them.

I have worked as a workshop leader in Primary Schools in the North East and the South of England. Recently i completed a successful series of workshops in Hebburn schools focusing on performing Flamenco/Spanish style pieces.

Tutoring Approach:

It gives me great joy to work with other people who are as excited about the guitar as i am. Since seeing Tommy Emmanuel grace the stage at Chesham School Hall after his performance at the Olympics in 2001 the guitar has become a guiding light in my life. Lessons are approached with encouragement and enthusiasm designed to keep the student in a positive mindset.

The structure i tend to work to is a section focused on the area of study for forty minutes then a recap of what we have gone over followed with some listening to expert guitarists who are well known exponents of the technique/style in question.

I tailor the lessons to the needs of the student. I can teach RGT Acoustic Guitar Grades up to Grade 8 or can work on specific subjects including technique, repertoire, performance skills or vocal accompaniment.
I teach primarily from my home in Newcastle upon Tyne but do travel to students in Scotswood, Gateshead and other area's. Furthermore, i am also willing to teach on Skype also.
