Personal Description:
I have over 30yrs experience as a professional musician, with a vast range of professional experience and playing credits. From playing Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Café D Paris to Jazz gigs in Tiananmen Square at the closing of the Beijing Olympics. From Heavy Metal in Berlin to Manouche music in France. From Pop with the likes of Imelda May and Paloma Faith to Rock with Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Robert Fripp (Bowie), to Soul, Funk and Blues with the Blues Brothers, Geno Washington and my own band 24Pesos etc
Tutoring Experience:
In addition to playing I have 20+yrs experience as a professional music educator. My teaching career started in 1991 when I became part of the faculty at the Musicians Institute after graduating in 1990. Since then I have gone on to teach at the LMS (London Music School). BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music), where I wrote the technical module and 3yr degree course. I am currently a member of the faculty at LCCM (London College of Contemporary Music) where I teach bass. I am also head of 3rd year performance (Bmus) and the author of the schools performance module.
Tutoring Approach:
Despite my academic credentials I believe music education should be informal and tailored to meet the requirements and aspirations of the individual. Some people just want to have fun with their instrument, maybe learn some grooves from their favourite bass player. Some want a career as a professional musician or to go into full time music education.
I can help you to develop your musicality in a way that suits you. From just learning some cool bass-lines and jamming to building an effective practise routine, harmony, theory, technique, reading music, development of time feel and aural facility, avoiding player related injury (RSI), styles, vocabulary, improvisation, creative part writing and routes into the industry.
