Personal Description:
I trained at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and then at The University of Manchester. I did my PGCE at Liverpool Hope University.
I have two children who attended Chetham's School of Music. I enjoy all genres of music from Classical to Jazz, Pop, Rock and Dance music and attend concerts and live gigs and festivals as often as I can.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been working as a peripatetic violin teacher since 1995. I started in Conway in North Wales before moving to Wrexham Music Service in 2000 where I stayed for 8 years. I was employed by Salford Music and Performing Arts Service as a full time music teacher from 2008-2023. I am currently employed by Berkshire Music Trust as a full time upper strings teacher and I am also a String Team Leader and am responsible for the line management of four members of the string team. I teach all age groups (5yrs-adult) and standards.
In addition to my teaching I also conduct two of the string ensembles in Berkshire, tutor on the Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra courses and I have a busy private teaching practice.
I teach theory to grade 8 standard and I have a lot of experience in preparing students for academic and practical examinations, including GCSE and A Level.
Tutoring Approach:
My aim is to help all students, regardless of age or ability, to reach their potential. I believe that whilst learning to play a musical instrument requires hard work and a commitment to practise, it should also always be enjoyable and I try to cater for student's individual musical tastes where possible.
