——————————————————————————

Highly experienced in teaching children piano (aged from 4½) with a fun, encourage and progressive method. I believe in the quality and understanding of learning, rather than the quantity of pieces that students learn.

I completed an intensive music foundation course in 2011 and received a bachelor's degree with first-class honours in Music in 2014. I have also achieved a master degree in music therapy in 2018. I have experience in performing in public concerts, organised student concert. Despite focusing on teaching piano, I have also worked as an accompanist for other instrumentalists for performance and exam purposes.

Being a qualified music therapist and previously worked in a nursery have strengthened my instrumental teaching skills, especially when it comes to building productive relationships with young children.

Tutoring Experience:

My Students are aged between 4½ to 70+. I have successfully helped students to pass Trinity and ABRSM exams with high merits and distinctions - both through online and in person lessons. I am equally happy to offer casual lessons for leisure purpose.

I specialise in teaching children using the skillset gained from working full time at the Montessori nursery. Besides providing a fun and productive lessons, I actively observes children's emotional responses and tailors my teaching accordingly. During lessons, children are invited to play duets with the teacher and answer questions in an imaginative way. The more students enjoy the lessons, the more it reinforces the knowledge they learn from the lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I do not merely focus my teaching on finger techniques and playing music with the correct rhythm, as being a good musician comes down to the smallest detail. I take time to work and encourage students to have a good posture and problem solving skills in reading music. Although this can lead to extended learning times initially, it builds a solid foundation in sight-reading and theory; and it is beneficial to students later down the learning path.

It is important for students to develop an optimistic and confident attitude towards learning, practising and playing the piano. I feel this is important, not only in relation to learning the piano, but also when it comes to facing other challenges that they may come across in life.

Exams

Although taking exams should not be viewed as the main reason for learning an instrument, they do help to give the student an indication as to their progress, and gradually introduce and nuance techniques in a progressive manner. Exams can be frightening and stressful, therefore having excellent results and positive feedback from exams provide students with a sense of achievement, and this encourages and motivates them to take up the challenge of the next level confidently. In order to prepare students to perform under the pressure and in a nervous environment, we can arrange a number of mock exams prior to the actual one.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
