Personal Description:

Hi, my name's Robbie. I'm a 24-year-old enthusiastic professional drummer, percussionist, composer, arranger and teacher. I have been playing since the age of 4, and for the last 6 years have been working as one of London's busiest and most in-demand jazz drummers as well as teaching privately. Since I began studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, my professional performing career has lead to an extensive experience of playing venues such as Ronnie Scotts', The Barbican, The Albert Hall, 606 Club, Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, Snape Maltings, Kings Place and many many more; as well as being the house drummer at Oliver's Jazz Bar. I am also a composer, an aspiring novelist, a rather amateur philosopher and a great believer that there is something we can bring to music from each and every corner of our lives no matter how diverse or seemingly unrelated; and likewise that there is plenty that music gives in the other direction. It is this insatiable passion for music and for curiosity that I try to convey in my teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

For 6 years I have been teaching privately across a range of ages - from 9years old to adults - and across a range of skill-levels and requirements - including many beginners and intermediates right up to advanced professionals looking to study the particular type of jazz (bebop) in which I specialise. I have also taught and worked for short stints in various schools around London.

Tutoring Approach:

Having studied both drum kit and classical percussion at one of Europe's top music colleges, I am able to teach both disciplines. I teach all genres of music: from pop, rock, classical, latin, to many many more, with my specialisation in jazz. My lessons are catered to the preferences and requirements of each individual student - their ability, goals, personality and interests - and my teaching method sustains a happy marriage between fundamental technique, improvisation, sight-reading, music theory, playing ethos, and the history of music. However, these things - important as they are - are never allowed to get in the way of the single priority that causes us to love playing music in the first place: enjoyment!
