Information About Peter - Heckmondwike teacher

Personal Description:

I have been a brass player for over 10 years now, I originally played tenor horn but now usually play trombone. This means that I am able to teach and play both valved and none valved brass instruments.

I currently play for numerous ensembles including the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra (Bass Trombone), Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra (1st Trombone), HGS Big Band (1st Trombone), HGS Concert Band (1st Euphonium), the Syd Allen Big Band (Trombone) and Mambo con Rumbo (Trombone).

I was a long serving member of Tingley Brass Band (Tenor Horn and Trombone) and occasionally busk to raise money for Cancer Research. I also play a bit of tuned percussion and play with the Leeds Youth Percussion Ensemble.

I am currently still in full time education at Heckmondwike Grammar School Sixth Form College studying Music and Music Technology.

Tutoring Experience:

I have previously had one private trombone pupil. I volunteered for several years teaching beginners at Tingley Brass Band. I spent a week gaining work experience teaching beginner to intermediate brass players with Artforms Leeds.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that it is important to learn using a style of music you enjoy. I am more than happy to teach any style of music, however, note reading and technique are always put first and will use technique, note reading and flexibility exercises. I use this especially with beginner players but will always try to incorporate a style they enjoy.
