Personal Description:

I specialize in Cello lessons for young children and adults, from the age of 6-99 from beginners to advanced levels of performance. I am passionate about teaching music and sharing my love of playing the Cello to pupils of all ages, levels and abilities.

£40 per hour

Tutoring Experience:

I have been working as a music teacher for 21 years and have experience teaching babies and toddlers and pupils across the primary and secondary age range within schools in West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and Surrey. I teach Cello lessons on a freelance basis privately from home in Barcombe.

Tutoring Approach:

Each lesson includes developing the inner musical ear, understanding of musical notation and music theory. All lessons are tailored to ensure each pupil gets the most out of every lesson.

From Helen (5/5): Orla is an extremely encouraging and enthusiastic cello teacher. She paces lessons according to my needs and progress, which as an adult beginner might be different from a younger student's pace. She is patient and observant in her teaching. In just a few months I have learnt so much, all with great enjoyment. I would highly recommend her as a teacher to students of any age or ability.

From Julian (5/5): I began learning the cello very late in life and had given up during and after Covid despite having made reasonable progress. However, I decided to give it another go. Orla has been very encouraging while at the same time identifying the areas that I need to concentrate on. She was keen to work with me, at my pace, on the pieces of music that I had studied and wanted to continue learning.

She is also friendly and lessons pass very quickly. Returning to them has been a very positive experience.

From Madeleine (5/5): I have had one lesson with Orla so far - She was so great we ended up overrunning losing all sense of time because I felt like I was enjoying playing cello again after over 10 years not having played - Being an adult learner, she didn’t make me feel at all uncomfortable or patronised and sent me away with some sheet music I could learn from - 5* thanks Orla looking forward to the next one
