Personal Description:

I have played the flute for 53 yrs! I am currently the touring flautist for the Moody Blues.
I studied classically, attending Interlochen National Music Camp while in high school, studying with Alexander Murray, former Principal Flautist with the London Symphony. I then received my flute performance degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill, where I studied with Walfrid Kujala, Piccoloist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. After my studies, I relocated to Los Angeles and had a wonderful career doing studio (session) work, playing on hundreds of TV commercials, as well as many major motion pictures, including Toy Story 2 and 3, Monsters, Inc… Jurassic Park 2 and 3, and The Matrix Trilogies, among others. I now live outside of London, and for the past 16 yrs I've toured the world with the English classic rock group, The Moody Blues. I now want to focus more on building my teaching practice, as I am no longer travelling as much as I was.

Tutoring Experience:

Throughout the years of doing studio work and travelling with the Moody Blues, I have always taught privately. I had a vibrant private practice both in Chicago and Los Angeles, and continue my private teaching currently in London. I am currently interested in building up my teaching practice.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach towards teaching has always been to stay true to the art of playing the flute, while at the same time, keeping it fun and pleasurable for the student. I don't believe in being a 'task master', unless of course, that's what the student wants! I just want my students to enjoy the process and learn as much as possible while doing so. So, I can be strict, OR I can be easy. I try to intuitively read the direction the student wishes to take. Some people don't respond to too many strict rules, and some do, so I believe I am a very good judge as to which type of experience each different student wishes to have. I play classically, and also by ear, so depending on the student's wishes, I teach accordingly.
