Personal Description:

HI! I am a friendly, enthusiastic, encouraging and versatile piano teacher.

I am a professional level jazz pianist and one of the most prominent jazz musicians in Somerset. Additionally I have the ABRSM's Diploma in Piano Performance. Although I specialise in Jazz piano I consider myself as a Musician rather than a jazz musician. I love teaching jazz, pop, blues and boogie-woogie to students who do not want to follow the strict rigour of exam boards and want to play the music that they love so they can play in bands and perform.

Tutoring Experience:

I have a lot of teaching experience, teaching all ages and abilities. I have taught all grades from i right through to VIII, across a variety of examination boards including, ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool.

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to take students through graded exams, or teach in a more informal ear based way where I can teach music theory from the ground up. Although i admire boards like ABRSM for their rigorous approach to classical training - training which I myself have undertaken - this is not the only way to learn piano and if you are looking to learn to play for your enjoyment, to write and play your own music and improvise, then I am the teacher for you!

Every student is totally unique and comes with a unique set of motivations, skills and weaknesses. I will change my approach for each student to find something that works. This might mean trying a rock/pop exam instead of a classical one or just learning to play the pop music they like. Getting good on the piano does take time and work, but with my teaching the process is speeded up.
