Personal Description:
I am a mature tutor, working full time for a Surrey Music service and doing private teaching in the evenings and at weekends. I hold a Trinity college Licentiate Teacher's Diploma in guitar (L.T.C.L.) and a Bsc degree in Social Science. I teach Classical, acoustic and electric guitar, mostly using Trinity Classical guitar and acoustic guitar grades and the Rock and Pop syllabus. I am enthusiastic and love teaching guitar.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for a Surrey music service in schools and privately for the past 23 years. I have a vast experience of teaching students from year 3 to retired adults, from beginner to grade 8 and diploma level in guitar and music theory.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach has mostly been through learning traditional notation, via The Guitarist's Way series o**Contact Detail Removed**s, then through grades. Recently, I have used the progressive guitar book to teach plectrum guitar, with traditional notation and guitar tablature. Leading on to acoustic guitar grades and Rock and Pop grades for electric guitar.

Guitar grade book. Initially, Peter was concerned that his age might be a limiting factor, however, he has proved that this is not the case and he is making tangible progress and enjoying playing. Overall, an excellent start and I look forward to sustained progress in realizing Peter's musical goals.
With some limited previous experience, my request was to learn to read music and start from absolute basics. Neil has taken me through the initial steps to become a guitarist starting with correct posture and technique and basic music notation. After several weeks of tuition I am able to play simple pieces from sheet music and enjoy playing some well known popular songs. My long term goal is to play classical guitar, but I also have a love of blues and rock.
I understand that Neil has a wealth of experience from performing professionally, teaching in schools and private tuition and will assist you to learn guitar whether you play for personal enjoyment or aspire to a career in music.
Neil provides an informal environment in his music room overlooking a pleasant garden and has a relaxed style of teaching I can recommend for both older and young students.
Thanks Neil, looking forward to my next session.
