Personal Description:

I teach singing, piano and music theory. Lessons are held at my home studio in Woodlands, in the west end of Glasgow. I am also able to teach online, though generally recommend in person for a minimum of 50% of lessons.

Lessons are tailored towards pupil’s needs and musical tastes, whether that’s classical, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary or a mixture of styles. Pupils can learn just for fun or to work towards qualifications from ARBSM and  other similar exam boards, or in preparation for SQA Nationals and Highers, or GCSEs and A-levels.

Most pupils come to me with a view to long term lessons, however I have also taught short courses and coached for a particular upcoming performance, audition or exam.

I currently have most availability on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, or early afternoons most weekdays.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching privately for over a decade, and have also taught short courses, workshops and group lessons. I previously taught general musicianship and music theory for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland juniors department, and voice and piano for Edinburgh City Council, and currently provide singing tuition cover for the Musical Theatre HNC/HND at Hamilton Theatre Arts.

My background as both a singer and pianist is predominantly classical, however as I have always had an interest in other music i am familiar with a variety of styles and technical differences. In particular much of my continuing education and development since graduation has focused on Musical Theatre and Contemporary Comercial Music singing.

I have experience of teaching pupils with additional support needs, including visual impairment, autistic spectrum conditions and dyslexia.

I am an LGBTQ+ friendly teacher and have worked with non-binary and transgender singing students pre and post hormone therapy, however as it is not my area of expertise I am unable to provide coaching specific to masculinisation of feminisation.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons are designed for the needs of the individual, but a beginner's lesson typically includes a warm up, work on sense of rhythm and pitch, understanding of music notation, instrument technique work on repertoire or pieces, and practise strategies. I primarily teach through using the instrument, playing or singing to learn through experience.
Most importantly I aim to make sure all of my lessons are fun!
