Personal Description:
I graduated with a Distinction in Vocal Studies from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and work as a professional singer and singing and piano teacher. I graduated with a 2.1 in Music at Kings College London for my undergraduate studies, majoring in Performance. I hold ABRSM grade 8 in Singing, Clarinet, Bassoon and Piano and ABRSM diploma in Singing. As a soloist I regularly sing operatic roles and solos within oratorio works, as well as performing in recitals and concerts. I sing professionally in many London-based choirs.
Tutoring Experience:
I teach singing at the Godolphin & Latymer School, Greenwich Music School and Harvington Preparatory School. I also teach many pupils privately in the area around Blackheath and Lewisham. I am experienced in preparing students to achieve excellent results in exams and obtain music scholarships at leading schools.
I’m an experienced teacher of all different levels and teach classical, musical theatre and pop genres. I teach singing and piano to a very wide age range of pupils, from 5 years old to all ages of adult learners.
My teaching experience started with a strong private practice in London and later in Aylesbury. I have worked as a singing and piano teacher for the Buckinghamshire Music Trust and in primary and secondary schools in the Buckinghamshire area, such as The Misbourne School in Great Missenden. I have also taught larger singing classes for Stagecoach and have worked as a deputy teacher for various Saturday music schools, which included large classes of Music Theory and the Kodaly method.
I have delivered musical workshops in schools for children with learning difficulties and care homes for the elderly. I also worked as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language to both children and adults.
Tutoring Approach:
As well as introducing a sound technique I will always aim to make my lessons enjoyable and something to look forward to. A key aim for me is to provide a relaxed environment for my lessons and to promote an atmosphere of trying one’s best despite the result. I am patient and will adapt my teaching to the individual by helping them to learn in the best way possible for them, ensuring motivation to practice and making music an enjoyable experience.
I have a detailed knowledge of vocal technique and am committed to helping my pupils find greater vocal ease through improved technique. I am also constantly performing myself, so I know how to approach giving one's best performance.
I am happy both to prepare pupils to take musical examinations and to teach them without exams according to preference.

Within a few months, my verbal communication had vastly improved and this assisted me greatly within my time spent in Munich.
I had previously attended group classes in the previous years but I felt within only a few months of having a private Tutor that I had learned more within those three months than I had within my group classes combined.
She is a very approachable, patient and knowledgeable teacher, settling any anxiety I may have had about attending a private Tutor beforehand very quickly who makes the lessons both enjoyable and productive.
If you have any hesitations, I can assure you that I highly recommend her as a teacher and upon my return from Munich I have continued to attend lessons with Melissa ever since.
Melissa has been giving piano lessons to my 14yr old daughter for two years now. My daughter now loves playing the piano and I'm sure Melissa's inspiration went a long way for this.
My daughter sat grades 1&2 exams and in both she passed with ''Distinction' !
Melissa is very approachable, her communication is crystal clear, she always is flexible if the lesions need to be reorganised. She listens to what I and my daughter would like to happen and always plans the lessons accordingly.
My daughter wouldn't miss her piano lessons for anything ( which is quite unusual for a 14yr old with so much to do on her phone, computer, Xbox and so many other gadgets) - she wasn't very happy when we had to cancel her last week's lesson due to the snow.
Melissa is the perfect tutor. Her guidance and inspiration has made playing the piano a very enjoyable experience- which means my daughter now has a friend in her piano for the rest of her life.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first lesson, and time went past very quickly.

Her tech is great (mine wasn't but is improving).
She's given me a really challenging piece to start with, which is really stimulating.
