Personal Description:

Matt is a classically trained musician and multi-instrumentalist. He earned a BA in music from the University of Bristol in 2014, he has two Grade 8 merits (Piano and Bassoon) and has worked in the music industry as a performer and tutor since his graduation.

Tutoring Experience:

Matt has been teaching piano and music theory for six years. He previously taught piano performance at Davenant Foundation School, as well as privately tutoring in piano and music theory.

He is experienced teaching people of all ages and abilities, including those with learning and behaviour difficulties.

He has a 100% pass rate for practical and theory exams; he has prepared students for ABRSM, Trinity, and Rockschool exams, as well as GCSE and A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I am currently offering both face to face tuition in students' homes and remote tuition depending on the student's preference.

The music theory tuition is particularly aimed at those looking to advance towards their Grade 5 ABRSM theory exam, though I am also able to teach the Rock-school syllabus. I have good knowledge of the theory requirements for GCSE and A level exams, including preparation for Bach Chorales for which I have access to many of the past exam papers.

I have designed my teaching service to suit your needs. I only take on a small number of students at a time so that I can provide you with the best possible service. I understand that people have busy schedules, particularly families with multiple children, and so I have made myself available to teach in your home. I do not have a late cancellation policy and am often able to rearrange lessons at short notice. I also offer flexible payment methods including monthly payments at the end of the month rather than upfront.

I am a very patient and committed tutor, able to adapt my teaching style to suit the needs of the student. I can get alongside the casual player who is looking to learn as a hobby as well as the dedicated student who is looking to advance through the Grade System. Whatever you are looking to achieve in your playing, I can help you to get there.

I offer lessons of varying lengths, typically between 30 minutes and 1 hour, and am usually available to teach through school holidays if desired. I offer the first lesson completely free of charge. Please note that my advertised teaching rates are for actual tuition time; there is an extra charge for students who wish for me to travel to their home for lessons; this charge is usually just £5 but will be discussed with each individual student as it depends on time spent travelling.
