Information About Mairi - Glasgow teacher

Personal Description:

Hi there! I'm Mairi - an experienced pianist and teacher with DipABRSM distinction and piano scholarships from the University of St Andrews. I have been teaching piano lessons for several years now and look forward to sharing my love of music with you.

*I welcome students of all musical backgrounds, including complete beginners and children*

Whether you hope to work your way to the highest grade possible, play your favourite songs by ear, or decipher a jazz lead sheet, by building on your interests my lessons will help you grow as a musician and develop skills that will serve you for life.

I am now based in the West End of Glasgow, but can travel within the city and also offer online lessons via Zoom.

Tutoring Experience:

I have seven years of experience as a self-employed piano teacher. During this time I have developed a teaching style centred around the enjoyment of playing and learning (a previous student once told me, “You seem like you really appreciate fun!”). I am particularly experienced in teaching children, and enjoy finding creative ways to communicate ideas and help them learn best. That said, I have also taught university students and adult learners from beginner to intermediate level.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning to play the piano should always be fun - that's why I like to build creative tasks such as composing and improvising into my lessons, while also working on a foundation of technique and musical literacy. For me, challenging students in ways that improve their all-round musicianship is a priority.
