Personal Description:
I am returning to teaching after 2 years off due to becoming a mother and relocating to Shrewsbury. 15 years full time music teaching experience in a vast range of settings. Highly qualified, person-centred and passionate teacher. Faultless ABRSM exam results with 95% merit and above. I champion it never being too late to learn and love to work with adults who are discovering or reconnecting with an instrument for pleasure or wellbeing (or retirement hobby!)
I am a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music with a BMus(Hons) in the clarinet having studied under Linda Merrick, Chris Swann and Antonio Salguero.
I teach all ages and abilities in the client’s home or online.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 15 years experience having taught for Lancashire music Service, Bury Music Service, Cheshire West and Chester Music service, Loreto College, Manchester and on a private basis. I have extensive experience in teaching Wider Opportunities, small groups, Flute choirs, Music Theory classes and individual lessons.
I have been teaching online since 2020.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style is adapted to the client’s learning style, being dynamic, responsive and empathetic. I love to look at the ‘whole musician’ which means we don’t just play from one tune to the next from a book- I will deliver sessions that include things like rhythm games, movement, breathwork, aural skills, improvisation (don’t panic!), instrument care and so much more.
I am especially interested in music as a therapeutic tool and welcome those looking to reconnect with an instrument or their voice. I am an experience music for health facilitator, having ran evidence-based singing groups for those living with dementia, Parkinson’s and for wellbeing.
I can of course also support those undertaking music GCSE, A-levels and beyond and have 100% flying colours success rate in ABRSM exams (practical and theory).
I offer voice sessions for those living with Parkinson’s, dementia and other neurological or respiratory conditions.
