Personal Description:

Hello! I am a mum of 3 based in Solihull and have been teaching the piano and music theory for over 25 years. I teach children/teenagers from my own home and encourage parents to sit in on lessons (which last 40 minutes) where possible. I have completed a thorough risk assessment and am taking all measures possible to protect against COVID.

Tutoring Experience:

Classically trained, I have a grade 8 (distinction) and grade 6 in music theory. I work with the ABRSM syllabus, and teach children from age 7 (weekdays, after school for individual lessons) in my own home. I have an enhanced DBS and also welcome parents to observe lessons if they so wish. I also have a Diploma in Education and Training and teach at a local College.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage my students to work through the ABRSM exams as I believe this is a good discipline, but primarily I want them to have fun, to learn to read music properly and enjoy learning! Lessons are 121 as I believe these are the most effective and enjoyable way to learn. Please note: sessions are 40 minutes for £19. Alternatively I do offer consecutive sibling sessions (2x 30 mins for £28.50). I have taken various measures be COVID compliant whilst teaching face to face (frequent surface cleansing, hand sanitising, wearing of a protective visor and a detailed risk assessment)

From Yvonne (4/5): Lorraine was very friendly and I paid for an initial taster session for my two children. It included written theory and practical playing. Unfortunately Lorraine felt that my 6 1/2 year old and 8 year old were too young and said to wait another six months to see if they had matured a little. We have since gone with another teacher and they are learning well.

From Antony (5/5): Lorraine has been teaching our eight year old daughter Grade 1 piano and music theory, which she has really enjoyed.
