Hello, I am a member of Academic Teaching Staff and the Choral Lead at the North London Collegiate School. I work at NLCS three days per week, and spend the remainder of my time as a freelance tutor and performer.

I have a PGCE from the UCL Institute of Education and a BMus First Class with Honours from King's College London. My professional choral experience includes Harry Christophers' Genesis Sixteen programme, and the VOCES8 Scholarship.

I am a positive and enthusiastic teacher, keen to share my passion for musical excellence with my pupils. My love of music-making was first realised when I heard the peripatetic cello teacher at my primary school practising in the school hall when I was nine years old. I was amazed how one person's sound could fill such a large space! I quickly started lessons with that teacher and have never looked back.

As well as my experience as a cellist (soloist and orchestral player), I now sing professionally with numerous choirs across London and Yorkshire.

My musical abilities have taken me all over the world, including Venice, Paris, Gibraltar, Milan and Hong Kong. The performing arts can open so many new doors for people, and now I want to make even more students aware that these opportunities exist.

Tutoring Experience:

Whilst I love my job at NLCS, due to the large class sizes, I miss being able to really get to know my students and what makes them tick as unique musicians. This is what made me decide to begin private tutoring.

As a private teacher, I have so far worked with students aged 9-25, with very positive feedback. I have a 100% ABRSM success rate.

Tutoring Approach:

* Please note: for cello lessons, you must be able to provide your own instrument.
* Please note: for piano lessons to take place at your home, you must own a piano or good quality keyboard. I can offer advice on the latter, if you need to purchase an instrument.

My approach to music tuition is all about striking that balance between having fun and making a rewarding amount of progress. There is absolutely no point in playing a musical instrument if the experience does not bring you joy, but at the same time we must realise that nothing worthwhile is ever without its challenges, and this is true of instrumental lessons.

All too often, students come to me for the first time, complaining that they can't seem to fix a particular section of music, despite having played the piece over and over again at home. The reason they are making no progress is because they have been practising their mistake, rather than fixing it! We must learn to be musical doctors, diagnosing the root of each problem we have, so that we can fix it as quickly and easily as possible. Once students come to realise this, their music practice immediately becomes less daunting - and much more fun!
