Personal Description:
I completed an honours degree (II:i) in music from Lancaster University in 1996 and then went on to train at Durham University as a music teacher. I spent many years teaching in various secondary schools and have taught both GCSE and A-level music, as well as delivering music lessons from Key Stage 1 upwards.
I enjoy teaching both children and adults alike and am a firm believer that everyone has the capacity to make - and enjoy making - music. I’m a keen musician and enjoy all genres of music from classical to jazz.
Tutoring Experience:
I’ve spent many years teaching in both primary and secondary schools, as well as offering individual tuition both for the piano, as well as music theory and preparing students for accredited exams.
I have a high success rate with students sitting exams and am passionate about helping students develop an all round musicality.
Tutoring Approach:
I firmly believe that everyone has some level of musicality and that music is a universal language that everyone can enjoy, whether it be settings targets for exams or simply for enjoyment and relaxation. I have a relaxed approach to teaching and believe that the key to making music is all about enjoyment. I endeavour to make lessons fun and a having, whilst encouraging that every individual makes progress at their own rate.

Very prompt and clear communication with an open door policy. My son is really excited to be working with her and I am very confident Katie will be a great support and teacher.
I was impressed with Katie's approach to English, identifying what interests my daughter and beginning where my daughter is.
