Personal Description:

Hi I'm Katie, I graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2015 with a 2:1 honours degree in harp and piano performance. I am and experienced performer as well as tutor, having played as a soloist as well as part of an ensemble in many concerts in and out of the RCS. I have also tutored at the RCS harp short course 2015 and many of the Yorchestra short courses. As well as this i am a keen orchestral player, i have performed with BBCSSO, York Symphony, Leeds Symphony, Dundee Symphony and the RCS Symphony orchestral to name a few. I have also spent a year as the harpist for the Venetian Macau. I gained a merit in music education masters degree from the UCL institute of education in 2022, and am currently the head of music in a secondary school in Newcastle.

Tutoring Experience:

I teach at an intensive music course called Yorchestra and have done for the past four years, this requires me to tutor young harpists with orchestral parts in private sectionals and whilst in orchestral rehearsals. I have also taught pedal harp in the North Yorkshire County Youth Orchestra, again it was required to have one on one sectionals with the harpist and also to guide them in orchestral rehearsals. I tutored at the RCS harps short course 2015. I have been teaching piano and pedal harp privately for 15 years.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student is different! I aim to make lessons suitable to the person, their capabilities, and goals. Whether they want to take grade exams or just play for fun!
