Personal Description:
Pianist and composer based in Haslington, Crewe with 3+ years of teaching experience and a music degree (MusB) from the University of Manchester.
Initially, I taught myself to play piano, but quickly became aware that I had no chance of progressing well if I wasn't regularly seeing a teacher. Throughout the course of my university degree I was taught by a few excellent teachers who have brought my playing to a high standard.
Tutoring Experience:
Three years of teaching experience in Manchester and recently at UCan Studios.
Tutoring Approach:
Having initially taught myself piano and music theory (and having now received comprehensive lessons in both disciplines at university) I have a good grasp of common pitfalls to avoid as a beginner as well as many ways to improve if you're an intermediate to advanced pianist.
All skill levels and age groups are welcome.
I specialise in classical piano but will be able to guide you through other genres should you wish to study those. Basically, if you have sheet music for it, I can teach you it! I'm also happy to suggest music for you to learn once I get a grasp of your current ability.
My approach to music tuition will vary greatly depending on the student (taking into account their goals and motivations as well as their current level). I do not view grade exams (e.g. ABRSM, Trinity) as a necessity but recognise that they are useful qualifications - I am happy to help students pursue these should they wish to.
Although I enjoy jazz playing, improvising, and playing by ear, it is something I very much do casually and would not feel comfortable teaching. If you're looking to improve your jazz improv skills, I'd recommend that you search for another teacher.
