Personal Description:

I am an experienced piano tutor offering tuition from beginner upwards. I have 100% examination pass rates mostly at merit or above with the ABRSM. I teach both at my music studio or via online video link. I also compose music and am involved with 2 bands.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught aged from 6 to 70 over the past 25 years , I am used to teaching both in person or via live online lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach music because I enjoy sharing a skill which I believe is a very good medium of relaxation… I take pupils through the examination structure, and am a registered Tutor with the ABRSM and Trinity. I am also happy to teach you to play for pleasure. I teach a variety of genres ranging from classical to popular music.

From Jeanette (5/5): I have had 3 amazing lessons with John now. He is passionate about music and teaching and makes the lesson enjoyable with an injection of humour. He is patient and provides fantastic feedback. It has taken me a while to find a great tutor but I have found this perfect one in John. The premises is Covid secure and John also offers equally as good virtual lessons.
5 star in my view; highly recommended

From Julia (5/5): I've only had one lesson so far with John with I feel we're off to a great start. He explained clearly his background and listened carefully to understand mine. I played a couple of pieces I had learned and he gave me constructive helpful feedback in a way that I could understand it. We've agreed a regular lesson date and time and I have my first practices to do. We discussed the possibility of exams.
