Personal Description:

Jeff is extremely passionate about playing and teaching music to people of all ages and backgrounds. He has over 25 years of experience playing woodwinds professionally around the world and 5 years ago he moved to Manchester from the USA where he is originally from. He now lives in Stockport with his wife and son. Drawing upon his extensive musical knowledge, he will make learning music fun and rewarding. Whether you want to learn saxophone, clarinet, improvisation, music theory (or a combination of everything!), Jeff is very qualified to teach them all. He will help you discover your large musical goals and teach you the way to move towards them while enjoying yourself in the process.

Tutoring Experience:

Jeff teaches a wide variety of students, from beginners to more advanced players. He offers his students unmatched instruction on learning their chosen instrument. One of Jeff's greatest assets is his knowledge of musical styles, something he gained from his wealth of experience in the professional music world. Jeff loves to enthusiastically impart his musical knowledge and wisdom to his students, but most importantly he will make it fun! Many musicians and teachers forget the original reason we all are drawn to music in the first place: it's an enjoyable activity that brings us back in touch with who we are.

Jeff is able to teach all of the saxophones, clarinet, and music theory - something that will undoubtedly increase every student's understanding of music. In addition, Jeff can teach you how to improvise! Musical improvising is one of the most joyful experiences humans can have, yet many students (even advanced ones) have never done it. Jeff will show you the path to eliminating the fear of "sounding bad" and teach you to love every note you play. In addition, if a student expresses interest in jazz, he will teach you the language of traditional jazz, bebop, cool jazz and beyond.

Tutoring Approach:

One of the most important things Jeff learned while traveling the world is that it really doesn't matter where someone originates from. In reality, people are people - they are all equal and should be treated accordingly. So regardless of age, nationality, religion or anything else for that matter, Jeff will provide you with top-class musical instruction.

What you can expect in lessons with Jeff:

-a positive atmosphere conducive to learning
-hand-tailored instruction that will be most appropriate for each individual student (everyone has a different way of learning that works for them)
-demonstrations of how things should be played instead of just telling the student how they should be played
-healthy balance of positive encouragement and patience
-fun-filled lessons where students surprise themselves with what they're capable of
-advice on musical instrument gear (i.e. instruments, reeds, mouthpieces, accessories)

What Jeff expects from his students:

-a desire to learn
-daily practice on your instrument
