Personal Description:

Hey! I'm James, 28 years old and based in Liverpool. I have been drumming since the age of 12 and have enjoyed teaching life long drumming skills to many people over the years.
*Please note I only teach students who have their own drums, at their address, or online.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught drums to children as young as 4, and all the way up to adults aged 30+. Your age is not an issue, if you have a drum kit and want to learn to play, then thats all the qualifications you need for a lesson! I have taught groups in classrooms and private one to one lessons. My mother is a teacher and so I have had a lot of guidence from her, and after playing the drums for over 16 years, teaching it is just completely natural for me.

Tutoring Approach:

When teaching drums, I appreciate the need for individual learning methods, as no two people learn the same way. I am a very patient and practical teacher. I believe that mistakes are a crucial part of the learning process and are all a part of understanding why a certain beat works one way, and does not work the other way.

Mistakes happen often when learning any instrument and it is important to value what we learn from them rather than be frustrated by them! I will teach you amazing drumming skills that will never expire, and you will have lots of fun at the same time! There are few things to compare to the feeling of mastering a new beat or song on the drums. So let's start learning new skills and impress those around you!

In a typical lesson there will be both music theory and practical. The theory will be written and you will learn how to write and design your own drum beats. This enables you to keep a record of them and the ones we have learned during the lessons.

The practical side will involve playing new rudiments and drum beats as they will be discussed clearly and demonstrated. We will repeat these beats until they become familiar to muscle memory.

At the end of each lesson you will have a written copy of the beats we have practiced and the knowledge of how to understand them.
