Personal Description:

I am the No.2 Oboe in the Philharmonia Orchestra based in London. I regularly perform with other orchestras across the country including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Before accepting my position at the Philharmonia Orchestra, I was also on trial for the position of Sub Principal Oboe with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
In 2019 I graduated with Distinction in my Master of Arts Degree at the Royal Academy of Music, where I studied with Christopher Cowie, Ian Hardwick and Sue Bohling. I also obtained my Batchelor of Music degree from the Royal Academy of Music with First Class Honours in 2018. Whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music, I won the Leila Bull Oboe Prize (2018) and the Grimaldi Cor Anglais Prize (2015). I also won the Katie Thomas Memorial Prize for overall achievement, hard work and good conduct. During my time at the Academy, I was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (2016-17) and the London Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Academy (2015). Prior to my studies at the Academy, I spent 10 years at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, near where I'm originally from. In my last year at the school, I was Co Principal Oboe of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Tutoring Experience:

I am the oboe tutor at London Performing Academy of Music and I teach piano at Falcon’s Pre Prep in Chiswick. I also teach oboe privately in West London. In December 2022 I coached the double reed section of the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya. In 2019 I was a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Foyle Future Firsts Scheme, which involved a variety of different education and community projects.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to ensure that each student is able to fulfil their potential and reach their goals, through a supportive and encouraging approach to tuition, regardless of age or ability. I tailor lessons to each individual's needs, in order to ensure each student gets the most out of their lessons. I make sure to involve and engage the student as much as possible in the lesson by asking lots of questions and using rhythmic games and exercises. I demonstrate regularly, modelling good technique and posture. I believe that whilst learning a musical instrument requires hard work and practise, it should also be an enjoyable experience. As I am a young teacher, I believe my approach to tuition is full of energy, and that my friendly and open personality means that I am very approachable, both from a student's and parent's point of view.
