Personal Description:
Having studied at RSAMD and Durham University, I gained a BA. PGCE, LRAM & LTCL. I was Head of the Instrumental Teaching Programme at the United World College of South East Asia (Singapore) for over 20 years and Head of the Music Department at the International School of Tanganyika (Tanzania) for 2 years. I consider myself very fortunate to work in a job I love and I thoroughly enjoy my interaction with young people.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 35 years experience teaching secondary classroom music to GCSE and IB Diploma level in addition to my instrumental specialism. As well as my private instrumental teaching, I am currently an examiner for EdExcel & the IB.
Tutoring Approach:
I am enthusiastic and passionate about my teaching. My approach is flexible as I understand the different needs and aspirations of my students. Those considering Conservatoire entry will need a more vigorous and technique based focus than those wishing to play recreationally. I enter students for both Trinity and ABRSM examinations but am equally happy to motivate and inspire the more casual player.
At present my preference is to teach pupils of school age (aged 7 to age 18).
