Personal Description:
I trained as a professional viola player and then worked as a church musician and teacher in Germany. Since completing my Ph.D. on the development of hymn books in hymn singing cultures, I have worked as a freelance academic and writer. Since then I have written 9 books as well as developing a flourishing teaching practice and working as a performing musician.
As a lecturer and tutor, I have been involved in a number of university courses, and have directed courses for the RSCM and other musical organizations. I have given many conference papers and led workshops in England, Europe and USA and Canada as well as South Africa. More recently, I have worked in Nigeria.
I am involved with various music related charities and write regularly for a number of periodicals and magazines. As a musician I perform regularly with local and national orchestras and groups, as well as directing choirs and ensembles.

Lecturing on church music
Music directing – choral and strings
Tutoring Experience:
I have over 40 years experience as an educator, academic and writer. I have taught in many environments from schools, colleges, local authority schemes and private teaching.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is pupil led, allowing each individual to explore and express themselves. I encourage pupils to enter exams if they so wish.
