Personal Description:
A professional musician for 20 years I have also tutored privately for 5 years. In the last 10 years of playing I have very much enjoyed taking what was a highly developed ragtime fingerpicking technique and expanding my playing into Latin styles- Tangos , Rumbas and more specialised Flamenco techniques.
Consequently my current set when performing professionally contains a wide range of styles and techniques. I perform as a solo player and also in the guitar duo "Los Meseros".
I still however have a passion for my first love- songwriting, arranging and composing and am still performing and recording original material with successful professional musicians. I am at the time of writing recording an album of original material with a UK number1 and Brit nominated record prodcer.
I was signed to Sony/BMG for some years as a songwriter. i''ve played many professional sessions over the years and contributed to numerous soundtracks for TV biographies -The Stones, the Beatles, Robert Johnson.
Tutoring Experience:
As well as the many priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons that I have conducted over the years I have also held group sessions for beginners at my New Cross studio and taught in Schools.
For 12 years I was a part time Art Technician at a 6th form college. This involved working closely with teaching staff in assisting students with technical and conceptual problem solving. Experience which I have found invaluable for music tuition in terms of confidence building and creative development in students.
Tutoring Approach:
Learning an instrument has to be fun, stimulating and rewarding. Every student also needs to know that they're progressing towards clearly defined goals whilst they're having fun discovering their own musicality.
There is great satisfaction to be had from teaching students the actual hands on techniques of playing and I enjoy sharing the many secrets and tricks I've acquired over the years.I also derive great pleasure from helping students to grasp theoretical concepts that they can clearly comprehend and appreciate will enable them to open up their playing into yet further realms of enjoyment and discovery.
I attempt to ensure continuity between lessons, leaving students with clearly defined practice exercises… research ideas which will help to embed recent studies and best prepare for the lesson to follow.
As a valuable tool to creativity musical theory is approached in a similar manner - the student is always aware of why a concept is useful and how it is applied when playing in order to improve creative and improvisational skills.
