Personal Description:

I am an experienced and friendly cello teacher based in St Albans.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching the cello in St Albans for over 12 years, and teach both children and adults. I teach at all levels from complete beginner through to grade 8.

Tutoring Approach:

For me as a teacher, the most important thing to communicate is how much fun music can be, right from the start. For string players, the most rewarding thing is playing with others, so from the very first lesson I accompany my pupils, either on the piano, or in a cello duet. This immediately instils a sense of how one part depends upon and fits in with another, and the whole is so much more than the sum of the parts. I’m happy to put pupils in for music exams, or not, as they (or their parents) choose, and have seen pupils successfully through all levels from grade 1 to grade 8. Both main exam boards offer an excellent discipline of all-round musical development, which is worth following, whether or not students actually take the exams. But much more important is nurturing the love of playing music, which can last a lifetime.
