Personal Description:

I have BMus and MA degree and LRAM with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music where I was taught by Duncan Mctier and Graham Mitchell. I am a passionate and enthusiastic teacher and currently teach Double Bass at Junior Guildhall. As well as teaching, I am an active performer and perform both solos, chamber music and in many orchestras around the UK. Orchestras have included BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra, Welsh National Opera and London Symphony Orchestra on their string scheme as well as many more.

Tutoring Experience:

Junior Guildhall - Double Bass teacher. (previously employed on the String Training Programme at Felsted)

City of London School for Girls - peripatetic Double Bass teacher.

Kensington Preparatory and Fulham Preparatory schools - peripatetic Double Bass teacher.

London Basses - I direct and organise double bass workshops for children and adults

South London Youth Orchestra (part of JASSPA held at JAGS) - Double Bass tutor for Christmas, Easter and Summer courses. I have tutored both the 2nd and 3rd Orchestra, with ages ranging from 7-14 years.

Private teaching from age 5- adult

Past teaching work:

February 2012 to July 2016: Marylebone CE School-peripatetic Double Bass teacher.

September 2012 to 2014: First String Experience at the Royal Academy of Music. I was part of a group of teachers covering tuition in all string instruments for 4 to 7 year olds using the Kodaly method.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly and encouraging person so I try to bring this approach into my teaching. A good technique is vital to playing the double bass and I incorporate this into lessons right from the beginning. During lessons, as well as learning about the instrument, I also spend time working on aural skills with the pupil through clapping exercises, singing and improvisation so that the pupil gains an all-round musical knowledge, which is vital if the pupil wishes to take graded exams. I use either the ABRSM or the Trinity-Guildhall syllabus, depending on what the pupil prefers.

Studying for my LRAM in 2012 has broadened my knowledge of teaching styles. I love teaching, and am willing to teach all ages.
