Personal Description:

**Spaces currently available most weekdays!** Elliot is an experienced and versatile Violin and Viola Tutor with a BMus (Hons) in Viola Performance from the Royal College of Music, London. Elliot has worked as a strings teacher at Tiffin School, St Richard Reynolds Catholic College, and at the Vineyard School in Richmond (amongst others), and has a number of full-time private pupils in the South-West London area. They have been teaching privately since 2013, and working in schools since 2016.

Elliot's students and parents describe them as charismatic, knowledgeable and technical in their approach to working with budding musicians of all ages. Elliot also teaches adult learners frequently, and has worked with people of ages up to 75+.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently teach a healthy roster of 15-20 private students each week, and thoroughly enjoy working with every single one!

I now have weekday slots available, as I have just concluded a 1yr sabbatical from working in schools (April '23-24) whilst maintaining my private students across this time only. Due to my return to full time teaching I will be opening up about 10 lesson slots on weekdays for home visits in the Richmond, Kew, Twickenham, Ham, and North Kingston areas.

Previously to April 2023, I typically taught each week both 40 students in schools, and 25 privately on the Violin and Viola.

Other schools I've worked in the past are Westminster City School, The German School London (DSL), Chase Bridge Twickenham, St Mary Magdalene's Mortlake, and the Queen's School in Kew (now King's School)

I have taught for around 10 years privately and for 6 years in schools, with consistently excellent feedback during my work, and am always looking to expand my teaching in the South-West London Area, specifically in the Kew, Twickenham, Richmond, Kingston, and Ham areas. References can be made available from current pupils on request.

During my studies at the Royal College of Music I ran the 'RCM Underground' Performance Platform and peer learning program and acted as a class co-ordinator, meaning that I worked alongside many undergraduate music students in a pastoral, instructive role. I have taught on a number of Instrumental Teaching Courses in the south of England too. I am a Member of the European String Teacher's Association, Musician's Union and have a current Enhanced DBS check and am on the DBS refresh service.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach in a relaxed, supportive and adaptive manner, taking the needs of the student into account. I am a great believer that encouragement inspires confidence, and work hard to build genuine rapport with my pupils. If a student needs the time, I will always endeavour to go above and beyond what is required of me to give them the support they need especially in terms of low-income students, where I am happy to negotiate affordable and constructive lesson plans. A student's enjoyment of music is of the utmost importance to me, and I seek to make lessons inspiring, fun and different.

I have a technical approach to working out issues with playing and am keen to work on aspects of a student's technique alongside their musical development. I strongly recommend and use MTB (Music Teacher's Board) exams with nearly all my students, and have facilitated 50 exams+ to date with them! My average instrumental grade result is 82.3% for pupils (about 123/150 "ABRSM equivalent"), which is a figure I'm proud of, given the wide ranges and abilities of the pupils I work with on a weekly basis. Whilst I do still offer preparation for ABRSM exams, this is only on a case-by-case basis and only when this would be necessary for a pupil's situation or development.

I teach all the way from MTB pre-grade assessments, all the way up to beyond Grade 8 facilitating a 100% pass rate for ABRSM Diploma exams for my pupils who have sat these to date.

If you're looking for an inspiring, fun, and engaging teacher who prefers inspiring a long-term love of music for students who wish to learn for their own personal enjoyment, then I'm the right person for you or your child.

I don't enjoy teaching (and will not teach) pupils whom I feel genuinely don't want to learn, and I will actively refuse to continue lessons if such a situation arises. Please note that as a parent, taking a keen interest and supporting during practice as a parent is enormously important for young pupils to develop good habits and progress effectively.
