Personal Description:

Hello, I'm Liz, and I'm a flute, piano, and music teacher, based in Ashby de La Zouch, Leicestershire.

Music education is my passion and there is nothing that I love more, than inspiring a love and joy of music by providing high-quality music education in an enjoyable and relevant way.

I have performed with Leeds University's Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia orchestra, and was principal flute of the Cayman National Orchestra in the Cayman Islands, until returning to the UK. I have also performed as part of the Leeds International Concert Season, the Ripon Cathedral series, and the Cayman Arts Festival.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher, with Qualified Teacher Status, hold a teaching certificate for students from KS1-KS5 (and beyond), and I am a certified practitioner in Feierabend's First Steps in Music Curriculum for Early Years and young children. I have been teaching music for 10 years, and my breadth of training and experiences help me to find the best way to teach each student.

Prior to pursuing teaching, I graduated from The University of Leeds with an MMus, and a BA in French and Music, majoring in flute performance in both. During my third year of undergraduate study I lived in France, and attended lessons at the Conservatoire de Lille. I then furthered my studies by attending the Scottish International Flute Summer School. I have had the fortune of studying with fantastic teachers and musicians, including Holly Melia, Richard Davis, Jennifer George, Christine Turellier, Wissam Boustany, Ian Clark, and Alison Mitchell.

Alongside flute, I continued my piano education, achieving Grade 8, and furthered my piano experience by undertaking a course at the Royal Conservatoire of Birmingham.

I teach students from the ages of 4-60+, and love teaching all of them.

Tutoring Approach:

I always tailor each lesson to the individual student. Whether focusing on taking grades or learning for their own enjoyment, I strive for my pupils to enjoy their lessons while developing good tone and technique. I encourage all students to have an input into the musical repertoire they would like to learn.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages, from beginners through to advanced students completing diplomas. Whether you want to play for enjoyment, or take graded exams (ABRSM or Trinity), please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
