Personal Description:

I'm Jim, a Leeds-based guitar tutor, session guitarist and composer.

I had my very first guitar lesson at the age of 10, and while I’m mainly self-taught, I had the opportunity to attend lessons and seminars from great guitar masters both on the electric and classical guitar. I was both lead and rhythmic guitarist in various bands, covering genres from metal to rock, to pop, to jazz and blues. Nowadays I prefer studio recordings and music composition instead of live performances and experimenting with different styles of music (these days I’m very much into film music, orchestral, etc).

My influences in music are Angus Young, Joe Pass, Frank Gambale, Greg Howe, Alan Holdsworth, John Williams, Julian Bream and many more.

I hold the ALCM diploma in Music Performance Electric Guitar and the Diploma in Classical Guitar. I also have an updated enhanced DBS certificate.

My main goal is to form well-rounded musicians, teaching them the fundamentals in music so that they continue to advance even without a tutor. I firmly believe in sharing all the knowledge, every tiny secret I have accumulated over the years, and making music theory easy so that everyone can understand and love music and this instrument as much as I do.

I'm teaching in my home studio in Horsforth, Leeds and online, teaching mainly adults, and children over 8 years old.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been teaching privately for 20+ years, and for a few years I taugh**Contact Detail Removed**ctric guitar in small groups in conservatories. Genres covering are jazz, fusion, pop, rock, hard rock and metal, also classical guitar repertoir from Bach to Sor to Britten.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the teaching approach of Berklee, Musicians Institute and London College of Music, however I can adapt to the exam board of your preference.
